To modify Default Geometry Properties for a Feature Definition in a Job Default

The Geometries page of the Placement Defaults dialog box is used to select default settings for the geometry properties of a particular feature type. If you access the dialog box from the Job Default Assistant, these defaults become part of the current job default.

These geometry defaults include offset distance and angle for the feature symbol, offset distance and angle for the feature annotation (if the feature has been configured for annotation), and downstream or upstream placement of inline feature symbols in relation to the work location. Whether a particular default setting is applicable to a feature will depend on whether it has been configured for offset placement. For more information about geometry defaults, see Business Rules.

If you want to specify geometry defaults for a feature without changing the job definition, you can access the Placement Defaults dialog box from the Feature Catalog while using the Design Assistant. With this procedure, the defaults will apply to the assigned feature in the design and will override the active job default. For more information, see Modifying Default Geometry Properties for Feature Types

Placement Defaults dialog box (Geometries page)

  1. From the list of job defaults in the Job Defaults view, select the job default that you want to edit and choose Job Default Assistant from the Go menu to open the item in the Job Default Assistant.
  2. Or right-click the job default and select Job Default Assistant from the shortcut menu.
  3. Or double-click the job default.
  4. In the Feature Commodity Types folder, double-click the commodity group containing the feature that you want to edit.
  5. Select the feature and choose Feature Properties from the Job Default menu to open the Placement Defaults dialog box.
  6. Click the Geometries tab and then select Use Custom Settings to make the geometry properties editable.
  7. To specify a custom offset distance and angle for the feature symbol, select a value from the Offset Distance list (or type the value in the box) and drag the slider button to the desired position. Note: Offset angle is measured in degrees beginning at 0° (East) and continuing counterclockwise (i.e., 90° = North; 180° = West; 270° = South).
  8. To specify a custom offset distance and angle for the feature annotation, click the Enable Auto Annotation box and select a value from the Offset Distance list (or type the value in the box) and then drag the slider button to the desired position. Note: Since annotations often consist of blocks of text, the lower leftmost point of the first line of annotation is used as the reference point for determining position.
  9. To change the Device Placement setting for an inline device feature, click the desired setting.
  10. To save your changes to this feature definition in the current job default, click OK.
